Santina was born on the 5th of April, 1886 in Sicily. She made her first journey to the United States at age 14 with her aunt, Rosa Scaglione Anzalone, and Rosa’s husband and children. They departed from Naples, April 3, 1901, on the Archimede and arrived in New York, April 19, 1901. Their passenger record lists the person they were visiting as Santina’s uncle, Giuseppe Scaglione, already living in Brooklyn at that time.

Sometime between 1901 and 1908 Santina returned to Italy.

She married Antonino Schiavo of whom we’ve found little information about. In November 1905, they had their first child, Rosalia Cicilia Schiavo, born in Palermo. Antonino emmigrated to the United States on May 12, 1907. It was another nine months until Santina and Rosalie made the trip. They arrived March 31, 1908, listing Antonino’s address as 33 Cole Street.

Over the next six years, Santina and Antonio had two more children:

From around 1910 thru 1930, their family residence was at 4003 Third Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, however in 1926, Antonino did list a separate residence for his wife in 1926 – 457 Columbus Street, Staten Island.
